Organization for Electricians

It’s a messy world for electricians dealing with wires, cables, and cords on a daily basis. Whether an electrician has years of experience, or is a novice in the field, some careful organizing tips can be taken to ensure the work is done as quickly and efficiently as possible.

SPEEDWRAP® and VELCRO® Brand fasteners

velcroWithout organization, it is difficult for an electrician to efficiently carry out his or her work. One of the best organization tips for electricians is to have a firm knowledge on the applications for some of the newer SPEEDWRAP® and VELCRO® brand fastening solutions. From labeling wires, bundling groups of cables, improving air flow around critical electrical components to general organization VELCRO® brand straps are ever more present in the electrical arena. Here’s why you should consider adding hook and loop fasteners to your arsenal of tools.

Tensile Strength: Hook and loop is a strong material that has the potential to hold large amounts of weight. They come in various sizes with different weight capacities.
Reusable and soft: These cable ties, straps and cut-to-length hook and loop tape are reusable and gentle on wires. Hook and loop fasteners have become the fastener of choice for installers, electricians and integrators of data centers because hook and loop is softer and gentler on wires then lets say, a conventional nylon zip-tie.

Flexibility in Use: SPEEDWRAP® and VELCRO® brand straps are extremely easy to handle. These ‘back-to-back’ type cable management solutions feature hook on one side and loop on the other. Wrap the hook and loop tie, strap or tape around an object and back onto itself for a secure hold. Need a shorter tie? Then simply wrap the excess length onto itself. Not sure what length strap you need? Simply buy cut-to-length tape or more unique items like the SPEEDWRAP® AnyLenth™ Strap, and cut the item down to size during application. Need to add more wires to a bundle later? Hook and loop fasteners are very easy to adjust, allowing for fast modifications to the bundle of wires, cables, or cords.

Applications: The uses for hook and loop cable ties, straps and cut-to-length tape are limited only to one’s imagination. Beyond their obvious use for wire bundling and routing, electricians have found some creative applications for these fasteners. For example, using a SPEEDWRAP® Cinch Strap or VELCRO® Brand VELSTRAP to carry fluorescent light bulbs through a job site, cleaning up and bundling power cables and wires inside the truck or for temporary wire positioning before the wiring is permanently secured.

Quality design and Safe: SPEEDWRAP® and VELCRO® Brand fastening solutions offer UL-94V2 and plenum rated products approved for electrical and air handling spaces.
The fact that SPEEDWRAP® and VELCRO® Brand straps are extremely effective in organizing electrical environments, are safe and easy to use and reuse, make them ideal fasteners for electricians. Hook and loop fastening solutions have gained such popularity that organization of electrical wiring without these new fasteners seems an almost impossible job.

I, personally, keep some velcro on hand in the garage just in case I need something that is temporary and doesn’t warrant the use of standard zip ties. It’s always fast to undo a velcro strap instead of having to go through the utter agony of reapplying an annoying zip tie. Great product and post!
