How to Setup a Guitar Pedal Board

If there’s one thing every guitar player loves, it’s having an arsenal of effect pedals. We all want quick access to our favorite tones that enhance our music. However, this luxury comes at a price. It doesn’t take long before you have a mess beneath your feet of unorganized boxes and snaking cables that could potentially create an embarrassing mistake on stage, in front of all your loyal fans. The solution to this problem is a pedal board combined with a healthy dose of hook and loop.

Step 1: You will need to either build a pedal board or purchase one. A board is very easy to make. Just look at any of the professional pedal boards available, such as the PedalTrain models.

Step 2: Round up all your pedals and start placing them on your board to determine where you would like to mount them. A good idea is to start with the volume or whammy pedal on the left and then work your way across the board in the order of your most used effects. Now mark these locations with a pencil.

Step 3: Attach 2 strips of 3/4 loop on your board at the top and bottom locations for each pedal. This is the soft and fuzzy strips.

Step 4: Now attach 2 strips of 3/4 hook, the scratchy plastic side, to the bottom of your pedals at both the top and bottom. Your pedals can now be stuck into place and you don’t have to worry about them sliding around the stage.

Every pedal manufacturer likes to have their own special rubber padding mounted to the bottom of their pedals. Sometimes this can interfere with our setup. If you’re having issues with this, carefully remove the padding before adhering the strips of hook. The padding can then be kept in a safe place should you ever want to reattach it.
